Vancouver Canucks X account hacked with deepfake Elon Musk crypto scams

May 5 2025, 10:17 pm

Just when you thought this season couldn’t get any worse for the Vancouver Canucks, the hockey gods said “hold my beer.”

The Canucks’ official account on X, which has 1.1-million followers, is under attack.

It began after 2 p.m. PDT, with an apparent crypto scam posted to @Canucks, before an AI-generated Elon Musk video appeared. The Canucks social media team was able to quickly delete the posts, but initially was unable to stop new ones from appearing.

The Canucks appeared to stop the scammers in under an hour.

The Canucks have acknowledged the issue, saying in a press release that their account has been “compromised.”

“Please note that the @Canucks Twitter/X account has been compromised,” the Canucks said. “Please disregard any recent posts until further notice. We are working with the platform and the NHL to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

Predictably, fans online are having fun with the hack.

Some asked the hackers to give them a follow, while others requested a refund from the Canucks for all the money they supposedly lost on the crypto scam.

The trolls got pretty creative, with this one even drawing a hacker reply.

Canucks fan @hjauraarchive probably said it best: “The @Canucks account getting hacked is the most poetic way to end the season.”
